About the Book

This poem series was originally presented in September 2021 as a ‘lecture’ at The Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery on Vancouver Island for an art opening entitled “Family and Friends”. Due to pandemic closures and protocols, this opening was the first live event at the gallery in almost two years. This made the theme of the event all the more poignant for those in attendance since the poems and their respective content spoke loudly of connection, as did the visual arts pieces in the exhibit.

Pat Smekal and Ian Cognitō drew from their poetry archives to find (and rediscover) poems that had written over the years in celebration of, in deference to, or in remembrance of various family members and friends. Their goal in assembling this collection of poems was to touch in with the personal in order to connect with the universal--to search out and express the integral in Our relationships with significant others.
